Default phone and MP3

Hi Guys
I had a genuine nokia car kit put in my BF GT-P when new and had the 2nd generation stereo MP3 connector that goes under the tissue box and is retractable. This was also done by ford when new
Unfortunately, until now I have not tried and it does not work
Can anybody tell me if the car kit and the mp3 connector can be used together etc
I checked the manual and it says that if I hit the am button twice it should operate or once if already in am mode
When the phone rings it turns the radio off and comes up media on the screen
The manual also mentions the connectors for the phone which I can only assume were done correctly
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance Jeff

Yes regardless of whether you have a phone kit or AUX kit both should work.
