ooo, ide love to buy it, shame its out of my price range. All i got was a 1987 XF wagon with rust, that had been involved in a rear end collision that hadent been fixed since 1999....

I used to see one run at the Speedway in Newcastle. A guy called Paul McKew was the driver. It eventually evolved into a Grand National at the time they were introduced to the Speedway scene.

Paul McKew also ran a Mini at the Speedway back in the days when they would often blitz the Americans in their Camaros and Monzas.

actualy they had tried a hole heap of engines for the pantera, and the one that got the part was a 351 clevo with the top loader set up, then later on more development went in and they introduced the six speed, but the most effective was the top loader set up.

The panel beaters next door would use our warehouse to park there cars overnight . They would clock off at about 4ish and we would take the cars for a spin around our place . One of these was in getting some rust fixed (i think these things came with rust built in cos man it was rusty ) went ok , was the 4speed man . Was not a well built car though . Drove some really nice cars working there ,the best was a near new 911 turbo .

Apart from the non original paint job (looks like candy apple???) it has different and non original on each side. Me thinks $89K is a wee bit too much.

John Hughes, who "invented" World Series Sprintcars, also ran a Pantera in Super Sedan racing at Speedway Park (Adelaide) for many years.
And I reckon a bloke called Brad Scotcher won The Australian Super Sedan title in it, in 1991-92.

They had a ZF 5-speed transaxle fitted ,the top loader was never used as the gear box also has the diff incorporated
hence the trans axle name.

When looking at the Pantera I came across not one, but two Nota Fangs for sale on that website. Those cars are amazing. One holds the outright record for the Noosa Hillclimb. Nota, an Australian manufacturer has some serious motor racing history, most of which was in open wheelers such as Formula Junior and Formula V.

A mate of mine used to do ground up restorations mainly of Mustangs in the 80's for a guy who used to import them from The States. One day the importer delivered a Pantera to his workshop that he'd sourced from Honk Kong. It was so rusty that most of the panels had to be remade by hand. When it was finally finished it was a stunning car but we (all over six foot) could only test drive it around the block with the seat out, as it was so cramped inside.

I'm a fan of the Fang - they are so ugly that they even make a normal clubman look good. Did the early ones ever use anything other than the Mini's A-series.

I know that they are sort of still produced (Chris Buckingham) using front engined Toyota Camry components swapped around for a mid-engined layout. 4 cyl, 4 cyl Turbo and the V6 (f1?). Anyone else got some more info on the Fangs?

P.S. right at the end the Panteras were menat to be produced as a twin turbo (cant remember if this was the 302 or the 351) to compete in a high-end European GT racing series.

Actually, it went quite well. Eventually as it became a Grand National it jsut resembled a wedge with a place for the driver to sit in the middle. They had looked at a Porsche first up and ran it through the computer but the rear engine caused issues (as you'd expect).

Speedway can easily give the best racing - take a look at a Sprintcar - cross between a Cessna and a tractor.

Other "odd" cars I've seen in sedan ranks at Speedway: Turbo Datto 1600 which flew, Rover 3500 which did quite well, minis - thrashed much bigger cars, a VW - hopeless, Charger - did ok, usual Monzas, Camaros, firebirds, falcons, holdens from go to wo, Monzas (vegas, novas, sharks),....
